Addiction counseling is another one of my main areas of focus. I have extensive training and work history in treating addiction issues, whether that be drugs, alcohol, marijuana, or other addictive substances. In my work at several different addiction treatment facilities, I have been brought on board to bring a new and different approach to the treatment of addiction. I am familiar with and can be a supportive part of the AA recovery program, but my main gift is approaching addiction from fresh, new perspectives.
Addiction is an issue that does not typically stand on its own. Addiction is nearly always a derivative of problematic issues in other areas of a person's life. Often the use of drugs or alcohol is mainly a means of covering up prior pain. This pain may go all the way back to childhood, or it may be the result of a more recent trauma or painful turn of events. Sometimes is covers up a deep and chronic unhappiness. Using drugs and alcohol is a mood-altering experience, so it begs the question, why do we need to alter our mood? Why can't we feel peace and happiness in a substance-free state? Yes, it is possible!
My approach in treating addiction is holistic. We must discover what the underlying causes are, and we must address them. We must also look at your whole life, and find out what is missing, what is needed, and how you find fulfillment, connection, and joy in life. Please contact me and I would be happy to tell you more about my specialized, unique approach to addiction treatment.
